College fitness center reopens

You can get grades and gains at MCCC.

MCCC’s Fitness Center and Gym reopened Oct. 13 after being closed since the beginning of 2020 due to the pandemic.

People have slowly started to come back and use the fitness center for their routine work-out place and the gym for games of basketball, said Riley Burns, MCCC fitness center student staff.

Anyone wanting to use the space and equipment can sign in at the main desk in the fitness center with their college number and picture ID.

Masks must be worn when visiting the facilities.

Burns said the locker rooms and showers are still closed.

According to the website, if a student under the age of 18 wishes to use the facilities they must have a parent or guardian sign an Assumption of Risk, Waiver, and Release from Liability form, which must be brought with them on their first visit to the Fitness Center.

Alumni may also join the gym by acquiring a membership at the cost of $50, payable at the MCCC Cashiers Office.

Short tours of the spaces and demonstrations of equipment are available at request.

Some of the available equipment includes hammer strength training equipment, nautilus equipment, Elliptical Cross-trainers, rowing machines, stationary bikes, stair steppers, Life Shapers and treadmills.

The Fitness Center offers a wide range of non-credit fitness courses and classes such as CrossFit, Woman’s Health Fitness, certified personal trainers and much more.

A list of classes, prices and signup information can be found on the MCCC website.

The Fitness Center will be open during the Fall semester through Dec. 23, on Mondays and Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  and Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
