To kick off the semester, there are a series of events happening the week of Sept. 13.
“The purpose of the activities is to welcome our students to campus, give them a chance to meet new people and their instructors, and to show them some of the other opportunities available to them while being a student at MCCC,” said Tom Ryder, coordinator of campus and community events.
Karaoke in the Cafe
DJ Manny is the featured guest for this event, where students can show their karaoke skills.
It will take place on Monday, Sept. 13th in the dining room in A Building from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Ice Cream with the Instructors
This is a networking event meant to encourage students to get to know staff and other faculty while eating ice cream together.
It will be held in the Founders Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 12:30pm – 1:30pm.
Pups and Popsicles
Student Government is hosting this event where students can socialize with each other while eating popsicles and petting therapy dogs from Therapy Dogs International Chapter 307.
You can find the pups in the L building lounge on Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 11:00 am – 1:00pm.
Kojo’s Cookout
At this welcome barbeque event, students will be served a free lunch by MCCC President Kojo Quartey and the Student Government.
Buffalo Wild Wings is one of the sponsors of this event, so there will be free wings. Siena Heights University is the other sponsor.
There will also be games, giveaways, live music and booths for students to explore which clubs they might be interested in.
This event will take place in the courtyard by the La-Z-Boy Center, and in the event of rain, it will be moved to the dining room in A Building. It will be on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 11:30am – 1:00pm.
“College is so much more than sitting in class and doing homework!” said Ryder. “Joining a club or participating in an event or activity on campus is a great way to get the most out of your experience.”
