Students have a blast on National Student Day

MCCC students James Burns and James Parriet perform a karaoke duet of “Don’t Stop Believin.”

The sound of karaoke and the smell of popcorn enveloped you soon as you stepped foot into the A Building on Oct. 8.
MCCC’s bookstore hosted the fifth annual National Student Day, sponsored by The National Association of College Bookstores.
The festivities included food, give-a-ways, booths from local vendors and volunteer groups, music, and the time to meet and interact with other students.
Blu Water spa and salon ran a booth with a massage table, which was a favorite of many students.
Nichole Moore felt the massage was something she needed after class.
“I would definitely attend this event again,” she said. “The massage table was my favorite part. I’ve been in basic mechanics all day and the lotion they had helped my hands.”
Pizza, popcorn, and other snacks were handed out by Student Government members.
Karaoke seemed to be a huge hit for students. James Burns and James Parriet did a duet of “Don’t Stop Believin’”
“I’m sorry for anyone’s ears that bled, but it was so fun we’re going to make it worse and go again,” Burns said.
Bookstore staff who helped set up the National Student Day Jean Ford and Amy Salliotte were happy with the results and are excited to participate next year.
“It’s great we get to have a different relationship with the students rather than just a retail store. It’s something fun and it’s a way to give back,” Ford said.
