Students have a hot time at Back-to-School Barbecue

MCCC frisbees were passed out at the 2015 Back-to-School Barbecue.

The 90-degree weather didn't stop Monroe County Community College students from enjoying the 2015 Back-to-School Barbecue.
MCCC kicked off the new academic year with the barbecue on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The event is designed to give new and returning students a chance to mingle and learn more about the MCCC campus.
A variety of student clubs and other organizations had tables at the barbecue to recruit new members.
New student Jaclyn Kiley, 18, joined the International Studies Club.
“I heard about International Studies Club in Political Science so I joined, but I think the barbecue is a good idea because I don't know about any other clubs,” Kiley said.
Returning student Joyce Cutliff also joined the International Studies Club.
“I’d like to get more involved this semester,” Cutliff said.
The barbecue is sponsored by Student Government. Its members served hot dogs, chips and soft drinks, and passed out frisbees.
Returning student Andrew Williams, 24, said he’s looking forward to the semester.
“I’m excited for this semester because if I get good grades, I’ll transfer to Wayne State,” Williams said.
