The 2015 version of the One Book, One Community program is all about food.
The book chosen for this year’s One Book is “The American Way of Eating,” a New York Times bestseller by award winning journalist Tracie McMillan.
McMillan went undercover in three jobs — picking crops in California fields, working in a Walmart produce section outside of Detroit, and in the kitchen of a Detroit Applebees.
McMillan examined the reality of the American food industry, from field to table.
The main event of the month-long program will be the author visit, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 15. in the Meyer Theater.
McMillan will sign books following the event.
The Kickoff event will be held March 25, from 6-8 p.m. in the La-Z-Boy Atrium. There will be door prizes, a variety of food and wine booths, and a keynote speaker.
Throughout March and April there will be a series of films related to food shown at Monroe County libraries.
A Panel Discussion will be held April 8 at 7 p.m. in the La-Z-Boy Atrium.
The discussion will be focused on thinking global, and eating local. A Brown Bag Discussion will be held at 12:30 pm in the La-Z-Boy Atrium.
Students are encouraged to come to share their thoughts about the book with fellow students and faculty.
A “Tour of Michigan” buffet, which will be held in the MCCC Dining R
oom at 5 p.m. April 17.
MCCC culinary students will providing a selection of Michigan food. Reservations are required and tickets are being sold at $25 per person.
