Sidewalks, parking lots closing for construction

The numbers on the map refer to the work that will be done at each location, not the order of work. Construction will begin in the center of campus and spread to the edges, according to Jack Burns Jr., director of Campus Planning and Facilities.

Students will have to spend more time planning their routes to class, as sidewalk and parking lot construction will be starting.

In a campuswide email, Jack Burns Jr., director of Campus Planning and Facilities, announced the start of both projects, which are financed by the 2016 millage.

BBC Foundations, the contractor on the sidewalk project, will begin closing various sidewalk on Monday, Oct.8.

The sections will be clearly marked by the contractor to ensure everyone’s safety, Burns said.

While the work is scheduled to last five days, weather conditions may cause delays, he said.

Starting in mid-October, Parking Lots 5 and 6 be closed for the duration of the reconstruction of the East and West Technology buildings.

The lots, which are south of the East and West buildings,  are used for staff parking. It could impact student parking, however, as staff find other parking places.

The lots will most likely be closed until Winter Semester 2020, Burns said, but that could change depending on the completion of the project.

In addition, roads near the two lots may be closed at times for delivery of additional materials and equipment, Burns said.
