Icy conditions delay class

MCCC was closed until 10 a.m. Thursday morning, Jan. 29, because of inclement weather.

Between 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., Randy Daniels,  vice president of Student and Information Service,s was conducting a road assessment and all was quiet.

“At 6:45 a.m., Mother Nature started to create the MCCC Ice Arena,” Daniels said.

Daniels said several people shared their frustration with the timing of the announcement. He said the delay allowed the maintenance team time to salt the sidewalks, making it safe for everyone on campus.

“Our maintenance team does a fantastic job,” Daniels said.

In addition to the inclement weather, there were land line and internet issues that impeded the effectiveness of the Emergency Notification System, Daniels said.

In the event of a snow or emergency closing or delay, a message is sent via the MCCC emergency notification system. The “College Closing Status” link is updated on www.monroeccc.edu/snow/ and an announcement is placed on the MCCC Snow Line ((734) 384-4223).

In the event of a late opening, students should go to their class normally in session at the time of opening. If the college is closed, all classes, workshops and activities are cancelled. All offices are close unless otherwise noted.
