Middle College expands

Monroe County Middle College will be expanding its curriculum.

There are plans to add STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering, Math — programs to the middle college.

The middle college has so far only offered programs in the health science field, but beginning Fall of 2015 the new programs will be available.

MCMC principal Robert Krueger said a group of business and community leaders have been meeting for a few years to discuss area needs.

"One area that was identified is the need for more and better trained individuals in the STEM areas," he said.

Students are admitted to the middle college through an application process.

Applications will be available on Feb. 2 and once completed they are due by Friday, Feb. 27.

Students begin middle college in the ninth grade and graduate with a high school diploma as well as an associate’s degree or 60 transferrable college credits.
