Faculty make statement with T-shirts

MCCC faculty members are using T-shits to make a statement about the ongoing faculty negotiations.

Some faculty members have been instructing class in their bright red shirts, with text that reads, “MCCC Faculty Values: Our Students, Quality Education, Fair Contract.”

Faculty contracts expired in August, and negotiations for a new contract have been going on since last spring.

Recently, the faculty and administration have decided to bring in the assistance of a state mediator to help sort out the remaining issues.

“We are not happy with the progress,” said Dr. Terri Kovach, MCCC reference librarian and a member of the faculty negotiating team.

Other members of the faculty team include Tracy Rayl and chief negotiator Patrick Nedry.

The college team includes chief negotiator Robert Boonin, an attorney with the Ann Arbor office of Butzel Long who was hired by the college to help with negotiations, as well as Randy Daniels, Molly McCutchan, and Grace Yackee.

Yackee, vice president of Instruction, said the next meeting with the mediator is scheduled for Nov. 23.

“We just have a few items left,” she said.

The Nov. 23 meeting will be the first meeting since Oct. 14.
